New Meta Subscription: Don’t Fall Into the Trap!
Meta, known for products like Facebook and Instagram, has introduced a subscription option in Europe that allows users to use their services without ads.
At first glance, this sounds like an attractive offer, but as always, the devil is in the details. Can nonprofit marketing suffer from the new Meta ad-free subscription?
If you decide to subscribe, you must be aware of certain limitations, especially regarding advertising and earning from ads.
Subscription limitations
If you subscribe, the following are no longer available to you because it would require using your information for ads:
- Running ads and boosting posts for an Instagram account
- Running ads and boosting posts for your Facebook profile (for example, boosting your own Marketplace listings)
- Running ads for a Facebook Page, if the Page is linked to an Instagram account that has a subscription to use Meta Products without ads
- Participating in partnership ads on Instagram or Facebook
- Monetizing with Ads on Reels and In-stream ads
If you have active advertising campaigns, they will be automatically turned off when the subscription starts.
For creators, the ability to monetize will be blocked, but revenues earned until the start of the subscription will be paid out.
What ads can you post?
Using the subscription, you can promote posts or place ads on behalf of a page if the Facebook page is NOT linked to an Instagram account using Meta’s ad-free subscription products.
Canceling the subscription
If you decide to cancel the subscription, this change will only be introduced at the end of the current billing period.
After you cancel the subscription and the current billing period ends, you will be able to restart your advertising campaigns, create new ones, and earn from ads, if you meet the appropriate conditions.
Read the terms and conditions!
Everything is clearly described during the subscription purchase process, but many people don’t read these details.
Later, they are surprised to find that they cannot run their advertising campaigns.
This oversight emphasizes the importance of thoroughly reviewing the terms and conditions of such subscriptions to avoid any misunderstandings or unexpected restrictions.
